God's amazing provision...

I don't have a card for you this morning, but I do have a story of God's amazing provision. It's nearing Jesus birthday...how like our loving God that we get all the presents. This story actually happened in August, but I've never shared it with you, so thought in honor of Jesus birthday I'd share it now. My daughter who is a single mom, is finishing up her schooling in nursing (she has just till May and she graduates!) She has been very blessed to have gotten a couple of scholarships and a student loan to pay for most of the expense of her tuition and books. But as you know schooling is expensive besides all the add ons like uniforms, gas to travel for clinicals and back and forth to classes. She has been blessed by having a PRN (as needed) job at a rural hospital so really doesn't have any set hours, and doesn't always get enough hours to pay her rent and car payment, groceries etc. My husband and I have helped out as we have been able, but we don't always have the extra either. In August she was not going to be able to have enough money for her rent ($500). She had not gotten enough hours of work at the hospital that month. I pray for my kids and grandkids everyday...they believe in God, but don't really have a close relationship with Him. I had been praying for Jenny financially as she tries to get through her schooling and God has come through everytime by either getting her more work or my hubby and I having the extra money she needed. This time however, God provided in an unexpected, amazing way. Two days before her rent was due, she received a refund check from the college for $514.00. She had no refund coming. There was no reason for her to get that check. But even more amazing...the check was written a year ago. She called the college to see what was going on and they verified it was a good check and she could cash it, but they couldn't explain it either! The bank accepted and cashed it even tho it was over a year old and it said "void after 90 days". Do we not serve an amazing God? He knew of Jenny's need a year in advance. The answer to prayer was already provided just awaiting the right moment for it to be answered. I don't know about you, but it sends chills up my spine to know our God loves us that much. This Christmas season don't forget to thank God for all the gifts he's given you...the hug from a friend, a roof over your head, family, too many gifts to mention. But most of all, the gift of His son Jesus who died for us so that we can have this wonderful closeness and eventual home with the God who loves us so much. Merry Christmas to all my papercrafting friends. I'm hoping to get things back on track after the holidays and start posting more artwork again. It's been a crazy couple of weeks for me!

Have you ever had one of those cards that you had pictured in your mind to make, but when you were done it just wasn't what you were thinking? That's where I am with this one. I made this card for the Sweet Sunday sketch (flipped it on it's side) and the Stampin' Sisters in Christ "Use your treasures" challenge. I thought that I would like the patterned paper, but it's way too busy once I got it put together. But...I had way too much time invested in it already to start over. So...it is what it is.

Here's a close up of my "treasure". The cookbook charm I've been saving to use for homemade treats I've made for a gift.

Stampin Sisters & Friday Sketchers Challenges

This card is for Cute Card Thursday sketch challenge. It's all about girls... anything girly will do! I love this stamp from "The Greeting Farm". I've already made several cards with this stamp. She so reminds me of my youngest daughter dragging around her rabbit everywhere she went. I can't use it without thinking about Jenny! Happy Friday everyone...the weekend is on it's way! Wow, it felt really good to be able to get my stuff out and create today. It's been several days since I've had the chance between working and picking out pecans and company from the holidays. This card is for Mercy Tuesday's sketch challenge. I really love the way this turned out. I didn't really have any idea in mind, I just kinda "went" with it. The stamp is from "My Cute Stamps"

and the paper is "Turning a New Leaf" from Papertrey Ink

I also used punches from Martha Stewart for the leaves and the border. Sentiment stamp from "On my couch" also from Papertrey Ink. Hoping to get a couple more cards done today, but I hear the pecans calling me, so don't know if it'll happen or not today. We have to get them picked up before the squirrels and the blue jays and crows eat them all! We leave them the little ones, but pick up the big ones.

Giving gifts...

The challenge over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ this week was to create a card that portrayed a gift. I have three of those that will fit the challenge, so am posting all three! I am happy to say I have all my Christmas cards completed and just need to get them mailed. I think that is a first for me this year. There are no two the same this year either. That also is a first. Usually I just have 2 or so designs and make multiples. Because I got an early start this year I was able to take my time and make them all different. That is definitely worth repeating next year!

This card uses the Santa stamp from the Believe set from Papertrey Ink.

I'm not sure what stamp this is. Paper is from Cosmo Cricket.

Giving Thanks....where it belongs

I don't know about you, but I have a tendency to overlook the wonderful things that God does in my life. Oh, not the big, amazing things that you KNOW could have ONLY been divine in origin. ( I have had a couple of those). It's all those little things that I tend to pass off as coincidence. You know, like finding something that I needed when the budget was tight that is suddenly 50% off....or getting to work an overtime shift when I was short just a few dollars from making ends meet this time. I have a feeling that I pass those off too many times when really they are like a "kiss" from God. A heavenly hug sent down that says "hey sheryl, just wanted to let you know I'm here and thinking of you, here's a little gift"

Because I don't ever want to take God for granted, I decided today to make a book of remembrance. I call it "A Journal of the Amazing Things God Has Done In My Life" What better verse could I find then Psalm 98:1 "Oh sing a new song; for He has done marvelous things!" God has done some radical work in my life over the last couple of years. I'm so very grateful to Him for that. I enjoy a peace that I yearned for and now at last have. I hope on this Thanksgiving weekend you remembered to thank the One from whom all blessings flow. Thanks for dropping by and God bless!

Be a Lighthouse...

Jesus described His followers this way: "You are the light of the world...Let your light shine". See yourself as a lighthouse for others in the sea of life. Some may be caught in a storm, some may be drifting aimlessly, and some may be completely lost. To such people, shine some light on their path. Whenever you encounter people in trouble, trauma, or loneliness, be there with the gift of light in the darkness. A small gesture of support or a gentle word of encouragement can make the difference between giving up or going on. May you all be blessed with a wonderful Thanksgiving...remembering to give thanks to the One who gave the most of all.

Wow, it seems like forever since I've posted anything. Life gets in the way of creating....that's just not fair! I'm off for the next few days, so hoping to get some challenge cards done and increase my stash of Christmas cards a little. Here's one I've been working on a few minutes here and a few minutes there. I bought a few of the Magnolia stamps to play with; they are fun so fun to color. I've been picking out pecan meats every free chance I get. God has blessed us this year with an abundance of pecans! They make great Christmas gifts...a big bag of pecan meats! My mom and sister will each get one. I'll still have plenty to put in the freezer too! Hope you all have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Farm Fresh Friday sketch challenge

Good Saturday morning! I was excited this morning to ink up my first Magnolia stamp and play using the Farm Fresh Friday sketch challenge. I can tell that these stamps are going to be addictive! I have lots of grandkids stuff to do today so this will be the only challenge I get done today...then four 12 hour shifts in a row starting Sunday, so unfortunately, no time to play for the next few days....

Cute Card Thursday/Friday Sketcher Card

I don't have much time today for playing, but I did at least get to take a few minutes and make a quick card for the Cute Card Thursday and Friday Sketcher Challenges. Cute card Thursday challenge is "glitter me silly". I used glitter dotted paper and some glitter spots for my glittering and used the sketch from Friday Sketcher to complete 2 challenges in one.

Here's a close-up of the glittered dot paper, which is really cute I thought. Does everyone have big plans for the weekend? I'm watching one grandson in Championship Football this weekend and also attending another grandson's chili supper/school function, so I'll be busy. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend also. Babies are coming!

I haven't had a chance to do any challenge cards for the last couple of days as I seem to have to go to work to make money to pay bills! But I do have a couple of cards I haven't posted yet. Two girls at work are just about ready to have babies so I got a jump start on their cards. I know for sure one is a boy.....hopefully the other will be a girl!

This one is a cute little image from Pink Cat Studio. I glittered up the fairy wings to give it some sparkle. No sure what the problem was with the coloring on this one. I think it might have been my first copic card and I hadn't learned to blend yet! LOL!

Stampin' Sisters and Sweet Sunday sketch

I made this card this morning for the Sweet Sunday sketch and the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge. The SSIC challenge was to make a patriotic card to honor our soldiers and the Bible verse John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends". I used the sketch from the Sweet Sunday challenge so I was able to do both challenges in one card.

There will be alot of Veterans Day parades etc this week honoring our soldiers. There's nothing more beautiful then the rows of waving American Flags in the cemetery called "The Avenue of Flags". Don't forget to offer up a special prayer this week for them as they continue to fight for freedom and our safety.

I try to spend my Saturday's doing faith-based cards. Cards to encourage and lift people up. The way the world is today there seems to be more than enough opportunities to send out these type of cards. There is always someone going through something who needs a little encouragement to stand strong. I used the sketch from Unscripted along with papers from CTMH and stamp from Verve. Ribbon and crystals from PaperTrey Ink, and flowers from my stash. This will be it for me today...have other stuff I need to do.

I decided I'd do another card for the "show us the shimmer" challenge over at Our Daily Bread. I'm still loving this little girl with her bunny from The Greeting Farm. Cute Card Thursday...

Here's my entry for cute card thursday challenge. The challenge was to make a care using primary colors red, blue and yellow. I actually had made this one a while back, but it fit perfectly with this weeks challenge! I cased this card from someone, but can't remember who it was as it's been some time since I made it.

It's supposed to be another beautiful day here in southeast Kansas, so hoping to get rid of the nagging headache I woke up with so I'll feel like getting out and enjoying the sunshine. We have a ton of pecans to pick up under our trees, so need to do that also...those things are so expensive in the store these days! We our blessed with about 14 pecan trees and they were loaded with nuts this year! Yippee! I'll be cracking and picking out pecans all winter long. Have a wonderful day!

I snapped this stamp up when I saw it over at The Greeting Farm as my daughter will be graduating as an RN in not too long a time. I couldn't wait to ink it up and play a little. I used Mojo Monday sketch and came up with this. I'll have to make up a few images and practice coloring so I can have that perfect card by the time she graduates! Since I am a nurse also, and work among many friends at the hospital, I'm sure I'll find plenty of reasons to use this particular stamp! Have a great evening!

Hello again! I love Riley the moose. Here's a brand new stamp with a friend of his....sock monkey. As you can see....I love sock monkeys too! My mother used to make these for me when I was little, and also for my girls when they were little. I was surprised but happy to see them making a comeback in some of the stores around the area. Tho these days sock monkey comes in a variety of colors! This is my take on Mercy Tuesday sketch challenge. Sweet Sunday Sketch/ Our Daily Bread Challenge

Good Wednesday Morning! It's good to be back to creating after being gone for a few days. I miss it when I can't at least make one card a day! I'll have several challenges to catch up on today along with laundry and all the other chores and errands needing to be done. I've combined a couple challenges in this card. The sweet sunday sketch I kinda took artistic license with and shortened it up a little....Our Daily Bread Challenge was to use some shimmer on your card. I used stickles on the little girls dress...I have to name this little girl Jenny even tho it's not her official name because if you scroll down you'll see the inspiration for this card.....

And this is Jenny...(she'd not to speak to me for awhile if she knew I was posting this picture) when she was 8 (she's 29 now!) This was her very favorite toy for years...his name was Hug-A- Bunny. She received it when her grandpa died as something to "snuggle" with. She and her sister were very close to their grandpa, and were very upset when he passed away. She still has "Hug-A- Bunny" to this day.

When I saw this stamp called "Snuggle" from "The Greeting Farm" I just had to get it so I could make this card for my daughter. I think she'll appreciate it! Have a wonderful day. Till later...

This will be my last card today, and for a few days actually as I have 3 days of 12 hour shifts coming up, so no time to craft for a while. This card is for the Unscripted Sketch. I used my beloved Cosmo Cricket paper again paired with a Gink K stamp from awhile back. Ribbon and sentiment from Papertrey, and clip is from CTMH. I hope to be able to practice a little more with my copics and get better with coloring. Need to check out a few tutorials I think! Card Patterns Saturday Challenge #39

I have been doing several blue Santas this year for some reason. I wonder if he minds? I have 3 different challenges I'm going to try and get in on today, so if you check back later there may be another post! This is for the Card Patterns challenge if you want to go over and check out the sketch.

I just got back a little bit ago from the big Neewollah parade (Halloween spelled backwards!). If you're not from around southeast Kansas, it's a very big deal around here. Lots of bands from all over Kansas, floats, clowns etc. This year there was 144 entries into the parade, so it's usually always at least 2 hours long. There's also a carnival, food stands, arts and crafts, theaters, numerous bands, (some well known..Smash Mouth for one this year, and some not so well known) but always good! It carries on for almost a week. I usually don't go as I don't like to fight the crowd (trust me, there are huge crowds),but I decided to go with my daughter and grandson this year. I must say, I'm glad I did. It was fun. But I opted out of the carnival and rides and came on home...after all...I have card challenges to do! Have a great Saturday!

Taylored Expressions Cupcake Challenge Card

I love how this card turned out! I fell in love with PaperTrey Inks "On my couch" stamp sets designed by Lisa Johnson. It makes paper piecing furniture so much fun! Almost like re-arranging your house without all the effort. There's all kinds of lamps and pillows...even a cat you can put on the couch. Too much fun! I love just as much these papers from Cosmo Cricket. I reach for these papers all the time..(note to self, order some more soon!) This card is from the sketch challenge over at Taylored Expressions. Thursday Cute Card & Friday Sketcher Challenge

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you are all doing wonderfully well! It is bitter cold here in Kansas with a brisk southwestern wind. I went for a walk earlier this afternoon and had to have a stocking cap, gloves, and 2 jackets! When I got back in, I was ready for a nice warm cup of cocoa! Which in turn fit right in with the Thursday Cute Card which was to make a card with a drink or cocktail on it. I used some liquid applique to look like whipped cream sprinkled with a little chocolate (brown chalk sprinkles). Hmmmm....

Good morning.....it's early, about 3AM central time. The day will soon be here with all it's challenges, but for now... got my coffee, waking up alittle before I spend some time with God, then off to work. Mercy Tuesday Sketch Challenge #45

Good morning! I poured myself a cup of coffee and started right to work on Mercy Tuesday's challenge card today. I took a little liberty and added the flower as another focal point as I thought it looked a little plain otherwise...still not sure if I like it all that well! Oh well, it is what it is!
I'm going to be making a special sympathy card for my sis and her hubby today. They had to put their little dog down yesterday due to cancer, and they are devastated. The dog was their faithful family member and went everywhere with them, loved like a child. Some people don't understand that love for a pet, but for those of us who love our furry friends the pain of loss is all too real. But I know that my God comforts in loss of pets too, because, that's just the way He is! What makes us, His children sad, makes Him sad also. Later...

I got my Papertrey Ink goodies in the mail today, so decided to use them for the Mojo Monday sketch challenge today. I used Holiday Button Bits and PTI paper along with aqua mist buttons. I was excited to find 2 glittered buttons in the batch that looked just perfect for Christmas tree bulbs, along with one that had some red swirls that fit right in with the color scheme! Can't get better then that! I would never have thought of using red and aqua mist and ocean tides together, but the colors were all in the patterned paper, so I gave it a try. Okay, this is my final challenge card for today. This challenge was from the Stampin' Sisters in Christ blog site. The challenge this week is to make a card or project that features the nativity or religious theme of Christ's birth. I used a stamp set from Close To My Heart called Let us Adore Him. And although the actual scripture verse used on the Stampin' Sisters in Christ site was Luke 2:11, my verse is actually Luke 2:12. Papers and ribbon are also from CTMH. Cute Card Thursday...Challenge 83..Candy Corn

Today's challenge is "Candy Corn" which really is any candy or sweet themed card. I decided to use the gingerbread man from CTMH's "Gingerbread" stamp set. Sentiment is from Papertrey Ink "Everyday Button Bits" and paper is from Basic Grey "Figgy". I thought the gingerbread man had to have googly eyes, and a few sparkle buttons. I should have used liquid applique to make frosting swirls on his arms and legs, but was too lazy to go dig it out! I used to love to read my kids the gingerbread man story. Always when I'd made gingerbread cookies they'd play with them, chasing each other around chanting the gingerbread song "Catch me, catch me if you can...can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man... until they finally would chomp their heads off (including of course all the graphic screams of someone getting their heads chopped off, or arms, or legs...!) Makes me want to go whip up a batch of gingerbread cookies!

Ahhh........my final post today...my final sketch challenge! It's tough working on the days of the sketch challenges cause then I have to make them all quickly to get them up in the right week! I was happy to see this sketch as it gave me a chance to break out my papertrey ink stamp set "Quilters Sampler". I haven't used this stamp set near as much as I should!

Have you noticed how early and how colorful the trees are this year? I don't know if the weather and moisture were just right or what, but the colors of even the plain ole oak trees are so much deeper and prettier then normal this year. Anyway, that's the inspiration for my card: fall colors, fall papers, fall sentiment.....I am a fall kind of gal!! Have a wonderful day!

I love PaperTrey Inks stamp set Believe and have used it several times on my Christmas cards for this year. The tree is easy to color, just adding some darker green highlights here and there. You can't really tell it in this picture, but I put some gloss on the holly berries with some liquid glass (CTMH) so they shine. I've added some depth with some pop dots. Pretty simple card. Sometimes simple is best! (my own theory!)

Today is Mojo Monday, so make sure and play. I won't be able to make and post a card until Wednesday since I work today and tomorrow. After 12 hours at work, my idea of a good time is pajamas, recliner to check out the news for a bit, and bed.

It looks to be a beautiful day today so make sure you enjoy it. Each day is a gift you know!

I didn't get a sketch challenge done today as I was babysitting my grandson last night and today. He came and spent the night while his mom was working. I can't tell you how many games of "Yahtzee" and "Sorry" we played. We then found a chicken invasion game on the computer we played until we both was too tired to hold our eyes open any longer! But even after going to bed I didn't sleep, as Wyatt is a real bed hog...feet on my face, feet over my shoulders, feet wrapped up in the blankets till they're ripped from the bed, feet in my hair...you get the picture? No sleep for grandma at all! I'll be happy to hit the bed tonight! Then this afternoon he drug out all of his Thomas the train stuff he hasn't played with for a year or so and my entire scrapbook room was a maze of railroad tracks, buildings, and trains....but I digress. Since I don't have a challenge card to show you, I'll post another Christmas card I made this last week. I think I have about 15 in my stash now. I'm hoping to get several more made later this week to add to my growing pile. I'll be happy to have my cards made early this year! Now if I just remember to send them! Have a great rest of the weekend...I'll be at work!

I promised you lots of Christmas cards coming up over the next few weeks. I'm working on getting mine done early this year! So far I haven't made any duplicates, so they are all different. That's something new for me. I usually make only 2 or 3 different styles and then make multiple copies of each. But decided against that this year. But because I'm doing that, I have to start much earlier to get them all done! That's good news for you! You get lots of eye candy to look at, and maybe you will even borrow a few ideas for your own cards! I love snowmen, always so jolly and happy. Oh to have the cares of a snowman....well, come to think of it, that might not be so good if you have a sunny day huh? Hope you have some sunshine in your day today!

Hey peeps...how are ya? Here's the other card I made for the grandkids for Halloween. Spooky, huh? I've decided I'm just going to send the kiddies a little cash instead of adding to all the tooth decaying candy they're already going to have. Then they can decide what they want. Do you have as hard a time buying for your kids or grandkids these days? It's so hard to buy them something they don't already have, or don't like....it's just so much easier to give them some bucks and let them buy their own. Want a little scary? Well, ok, not very scary, but very cute! This is one of the cards I made for my grandkiddies for halloween. I thought the little pumpkin kid was soooo cute and reminded me of my little ones when they were younger. I can't say I'm sorry I'm not out in the cold going door to door anymore tho...kids tripping and falling and tearing their costumes, not to mention spilling their candy all over the ground, having to get down on your hands and knees and hunt in the dark for every last piece amid all the tears....oh yeah, don't miss that at all! Have a goodie!

Wow, I bet everyone thought I had skipped the country!! Well, I actually did for awhile. I went to Texas and stayed with my sister for a week at the end of September. It was so much fun. We laughed, we cried, we shopped, we painted ceramics (she has a huge garage full of ceramic molds and pours her own, fires them in a kiln...the whole enchilada!), and we walked, ate, tried new recipes. ...It was a blast. God has been so good to me to give me such a sister as Sharon! Then when I got back home, I decided it was time to fall house clean...so down came all the curtains, cleaned cupboards, closents etc.....you get the drift. So needless to say, I've been busy...just not blogging! But...I think I'm all caught up now and ready to get back in the groove! I'm going to start doing the MojoMonday sketch as often as I can (tho it may not always be on Monday) - the sketch stays up for a week, so play along if you like! Here's todays sketch
And here's my version! I needed a congratulations/good luck card for a friend at work who has accepted a job with the VA and will be moving on, so wanted to wish her well on her new endeavor!

Here's another card that's alot like the one I posted yesterday.These cards are inspired by one of the girls at Papertrey Ink, (I can't remember which one - but I loved it!) Just a little different take on it. The leaves of our big Tulip tree in our backyard are starting to turn yellow, a sure sign that it won't be long until they start to fall and the evenings cool off. I am such an earthy tone color person, that I'm always so in love with fall. The deep browns, reds, yellows, oranges...all those warm colors. Ironic that they appear in the cooler months of fall......ummmm.

The cool evenings and mornings have reminded me that fall is coming soon. That thought got me in the mood to make some autumn themed cards. Autumn is my favorite season because of the colors. I am a major earth color type gal. Almost all of my wardrobe range in earthy fall type colors. Although I hate to see the flowers of summer and the grass fade away, I relish the changing colors of the leaves and the beautiful colors of the mums. The sight of pumpkins and gourds, hay bales and all the fall decorations.....I love it! So this little bouquet of flowers I colored in autumn colors in anticipation of the coming season! I have several fall themed cards to show you over the next couple of weeks.....then I'll start on Christmas! Believe it or not, I even have a few of those done! I had a wonderful weekend visiting with family. It was the annual Morris family reunion. I even sang in a quartet in church with my cousins....it's been years since I've done that! We had lots of good food, games, and memories of old stories of things past. I of course ate waaaaay to much and now will have to pay the price! My brother from the east coast was here (Washington state), so enjoyed visiting with him. I only get to see him about every 2 years, so that was nice. Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend also! I rarely get my pages finished out before class with pictures, but these pages seemed just perfect for the pictures I just received of my beautiful granddaughter Carleigh. These are her professional dance recital pics from this last spring. Dance is definitely in her blood...she has the attitude and the talent for it. And.....she's quite the ham!

Yesterday was the 1st of what I hope is many "Cards for Heroes" day. I had two special friends come over and we made handmade cards to send overseas to the troops that they in turn can use to send back home to their loved ones on holidays, birthdays etc. You know, they don't have the local card store that they can go pick up a card when they need one...so we are helping to fill that void! The soldiers are so appreciative of the cards. My hubby even helped out by smoking a brisket that was soooo yummy. So we had brisket sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad and a lot of talking and laughing. Thanks Lisa and Jody for joining in and helping out. You are indeed SO SWEET!. Here's to you!

If you would be interested in coming over once a month and making cards for soldiers, let me know. I do limit it to only 8 per month so everyone has room to work. You can send me an email if you are interested. The next date will be Sunday afternoon, September 20 at 1:00 PM-? It's weekend coming up....I'm ready. I need a little R&R. I'm off work this weekend and in the mood to relax! As a matter of fact I have a nice long 4 day weekend. My plans?....mowing the lawn, cleaning the house, (okay, thats work really) making some cards for soldiers on Sunday with some friends, and some grandkid time on Saturday. Somewhere in there I WILL put my feet up and relax a little! In celebration of the weekend coming, I made a relaxation card! I'll encourage someone else to relax a little and send it to them down the line somewhere. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend too. Guess what...new CTMH catalog coming out soon!

My brother and his wife that live in Vancouver just moved into their new house after having to live in a small trailer at a RV park for many many weeks waiting for the paperwork to go through on the house they had purchased. Needless to say, they are ecstatic about finally being able to leave the ole RV park! (Sharing a bathroom with endless other people parading through not high on my list of a good time either!) So in celebration of that event, I sent them a card congratulating them on their new home. I'm very happy for them!

My daughter went and took her state boards for her LPN license on Friday...she's been stressed out waiting for the results to be posted on the state nursing boards website. Scared to look in case they're not there (afraid she failed) afraid to look in case they are there and then she has to open up the website and see the results...I remember that agony so well, only back in the day we had to wait 6 weeks not just a few hours. Of course taking the test on Friday meant that the nursing board was closed over the weekend....so nothing posted there. More agony. But she found the test site website and this morning her results were posted! She passed! She called me and yelled into the phone "I passed...I passed.....I passed....I passed" that's all she could get out for awhile! So congratulations to my little girl....(she hates it when I call her that!) who is officially an LPN now and on her way to RN. Good job Jenny....you make me proud!

Back to School and a tutorial

School will be starting soon...man where has the summer gone? I've been working on a card for each one of my grandkids to help send them off to school. I don't know if they'll appreciate the effort since it's sending them back.....summer's almost over. Poor babies!

I wanted to show you how you can easily make a cloud background for your stamp image. This works great for things like planes, kites, or even flowers if you'd like to have a sky type background to stamp your image on. And....it's very easy.

Here's the cast of characters.... a piece of white cardstock, a sponge dauber, ink in your choice of sky type color, and a scalloped punched piece. (I used the Marvy big purple punch for my scallop. You can use whatever scallop punch or die cut you might have.)

The first step is to lay your scalloped punch onto your cardstock and daub the blue ink lightly just over the scalloped edge.

Turn the punch different ways and continue to lightly sponge daub the edge only with your blue ink

This is kinda fuzzy, but you can see the clouds starting to emerge. Keep turning your punch different ways and daubing away.

When you get a piece the size you want, you can cut it out, then stamp your image on top. Eazy as pie!

So give it a try....you'll have fun!

I thought it would be fun to do another card challenge. Haven't done one for awhile. Here's the sketch I chose. If you want to participate, make a card using this sketch, take a picture of it, then email it to me and I'll post it on my blog. It's fun to see what different people come up with using the same design, but different stuff! Have fun with it!
Now, here's the card I made. My grandson's birthday is coming up on the first, so it was a perfect time to use the challenge to get his card done!

I had a great time this last weekend visiting with my brother and sisters and mom. I had a couple of really meaningful discussions with my sisters about how God has led in our lives. We shared lots of laughs and lots of tears also. Good food (my sister's funnel cakes are out of this world, but oh so bad on my "healthy living" lifestyle diet....especially since I ate 3..... yes I said 3 of them) and good fun. The time we spend together seems to fly by every time. Each visit with them is a gift. Life is good, and I'm truly blessed.

I've always wanted to take a ride in a hot air balloon. I think it would be so much fun. I love to look at the pictures of the hot air balloon contests they have and would love to go to one someday. What a photo op that would be. I found this cute stamp set and just had to have it. The buttons make cute balloon tops. I can just imagine myself floating over the earth looking down on the ground below. Maybe someday.....

One of my favorite foods.....Enchiladas

I made a batch of these for supper and thought I'd share the recipe I use. It's from

the Pioneer Woman!

These are really really good....try em...I promise you'll love em too!

Simple Favorite Enchiladas

THE SAUCE

1 tablespoon canola oil

1 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 large (28-ounce) can enchilada or red sauce

2 cups chicken broth

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

2 tablespoons chopped Cilantro

In a large saucepan over medium heat, add oil and flour and whisk together to make a past, cooking for 1 minute. Pour in other red sauce, chicken broth, salt, and pepper, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 30 to 45 minutes.

THE MEAT

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1 medium onion, finely diced

2 4-ounce cans diced green chilies

1/2 teaspoon salt

Brown meat with onions in a skillet. Drain off fat. Stir in 2 cans diced green chilies and seasoned salt. Set aside.

TORTILLAS

10 to 14 corn tortillas

½ cup canola oil

Heat canola oil in a small skillet over medium heat. One by one, using tongs, fry tortillas oil until soft, not crisp—about 30 seconds per side. Remove to a paper-towel lined plate. Repeat until all tortillas have been fried.

ASSEMBLY

Sauce (above)

Meat (above)

Tortillas (above)

3 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese

½ cup chopped black olives

1 cup chopped green onions

½ cup chopped cilantro

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Pour ½ cup red sauce in bottom of baking pan. Spread to even out.Dip each tortilla into red sauce, then remove to work surface. Spoon meat, a little grated cheese, a little black olives, and green onions in the center of tortilla. Roll up and place, seam down, in baking pan. Repeat until pan is filled. Pour extra red sauce over enchiladas. Top with remaining cheddar cheese.
Bake for 20 minutes or until bubblly. Sprinkle chopped cilantro over enchiladas before serving.

I love my coffee. Nothing better. Just plain with a little cream. Nothing fancy. Folgers fresh brewed.

Every great once in awhile, I like to relax with a cup of hot tea. I'm picky with my tea. I have a couple of favorites. One is Constant Comment. I love this, both hot and iced. It has a wonderful flavor. Makes me want to just put my feet up and look out the window.

I'll share this with a friend somewhere down the line. Give them a little piece of ...relaxation and peace.

Happy Birthday dear brother....

It's my brother's birthday next week, so I whipped him up a card today. He's not really a sailor, He's a golfer through and through. I made him a golf card last year that he loved. Hopefully he'll like this one too! He does like to fish, so hopefully he'll like this one just as much. I'll sing him Happy Birthday and remind him that he's 3 years OLDER then I am! I enjoy that part!

What a hoot.....

I kinda have a love-hate relationship with owls. They are truly magnificent birds..but one of them also killed our little dog last fall. But this owl I love 100%! Look at his cute little eyes. He doesn't look like he'd eat a little dog does he?

I stamped the owl image on patterned paper then cut it out. There are some images that are soo cute paper pieced. I did the same with the leaves on the limb and the belly of the owl. I pop-dotted the eyes on the owl to give the image some depth. He's sooo cute! Then I just added a couple snippets of ribbon and some buttons tied with jute. I have lots of errands to do today, so guess I'd best enjoy my coffee and get busy. I'm hoping I'll have some time to stamp this afternoon, but I'm afraid the lawn mower is calling!

Baby Book and Card

Here's a cute baby card and 1st year book I made for a friend of mines new baby (Inspired by a fellow consultant. I can't remember her name tho). It was really easy to make . I used all CTMH products. The new level one "Animal Cookies" kit and a "My Creations 3-Ring binder"
You can open up each white section in order to place a total of 3 pictures on each page. You simply slide the photo clip back over to keep it closed. Awesome way to add more pictures to your pages!
This is the front cover.
Inside front cover and 1st page. The book starts with the month the baby was born.
Some inside pages. I simply cut up the Level One kit up and cut the pages to fit the size of the binder pages.
Stamped the month circles and punched them out. Stamp set is "Today's Date" stamp set. I cut the Dutch blue pieces, then adhered the accordion folded white cardstock to that and adhered that to the page. Held closed by the photo clip.
Inside back cover. Used the My Stickease that came with the Level One kit to add a few embellishments.

I'm about to embark on something I haven't done for a good many years. I'm afraid...very afraid. YOU should be too! On this, my last full day of babysitting my 4 grandkids, I promised them a trip to the waterpark at Independence. You think "So...". What you might not understand is that means I have to dress myself and my ? year old body in what is someone elses idea of adequate covering for the ancient female form...otherwise known as a one piece swimming suit. My idea of adequatly covering this body would be something starting at the knees (just below actually as I have knobby knees) and ends somewhere not quite as high as a turtle neck, with arms that cover my hanging banner of flabbing arms that wave in the breeze. Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to find something along that line, so I had to compromise. I definately came out on the losing end of the compromise. I'm thinking if I divide my body into fourths, cover each fourth with a grandkid, making them walk in syncronised steps with me until I can get into the water...it's worth a try. Wish me luck!

I have to admit that I thought all the hoopla surrounding Michael Jackson's death was a bit much. But today, I found myself drawn to the televised memorial service like the proverbial moth to a flame. It made me rather melencholy to say the least. We were close to the same age, me and Michael. I grew up singing along with him on the radio...belting out "I'll be there" with tears streaming down my face after a horrible teenage break-up with "the love of my life" boyfriend who I knew I would NEVER get over. Hearing some of those "old" songs brought about a whole lot of "old" memories to go along with them. I felt like I had lost a friend when it was over. Maybe it affected me more then I thought because I've felt that horrible sense of premature loss for no reason before. Whatever he was...confused, lonely, lost, guilty or not, right or wrong, I don't know and it's not for me to judge. But I do know, he was a person, he had a great talent, and it's sad he died the way he did. I hope he was right with God.

On Vacation.............

Well, I'm not on vacation......I'm on babysitting duty! I'll be gone for a week while my daughter and son-in-law take a much needed break and go on vacation to the Grand Canyon area. I'm staying with my 3 grandkids while they are gone, so I probably won't get a chance to blog as I'm not sure I'll have computer access there. The kids have laptops and took them with them and not sure their ancient desktop has internet hooked up. I'll have to investigate. But, I'm hoping to get a couple of projects done while I'm there so hopefully will have something to show you when I get back. My hubby isn't too happy he'll be batching it while I'm gone, but he'll make do I'm sure...he's a tough guy! I'll see you all soon!

I really love Daylilies. They are so unassuming. They only have one day to show their beauty. One day to give everything they've got....then their gone. They go their way to make room for the next beautiful bloom.

I'm sure there is a lesson here. Maybe to be all we can be for each day we have. To live up to our full beauty, not of outside looks, but inside beauty.

CARDS FOR HEROES

I'm always needing to add to my card stash as I know most of you are also. I've decided that I would like to make make a difference in someone else's life also at the same time. I've been thinking for a long time how I could incorporate my cardmaking into a worthwhile cause.....I've found it! While browsing the Internet I came across a group that makes handmade greeting cards for our soldiers serving our country overseas. They desperately need stationary type items to write back home on. If you're in a desert remote area, you can't just run to the paper goods store! I was very touched by some of the letters and comments that the soldiers posted about how very grateful they are for the cards not only to them showing appreciation for what they do, but also the blank cards they receive that they can use to write back home on to their family and friends. They want to send birthday cards, thinking of you cards, love you cards, just like the rest of us, but they don't usually have access to those where they are stationed. But through this program, they are able to do that. So I have decided that I want to dedicate 1 Saturday a month to not only replenishing my stash, but making extra to send to our troop. By making 2 of each card (or more, I actually usually make 4 of each card I make) you can make some for yourself, and make some for our troops. So anyone who would like to join me at my house 1 Saturday a month to make a difference, I'd love to have you. You'll have access to all of my stamps, and cutting equipment, and inks. You bring your own supplies and embellishments. Bring a pot-luck dish for lunch (we'll plan that ahead of time) and whatever snacks you might want, and we can make a day of it. I will have to limit the number of people signing up to come just because of room issues. So each month I'll put up a sign up sheet for the next month and let you all know when I'm full. I'll take care of the postage to send the cards to the organization that sends the cards to the troops. You just come and enjoy making cards for those who will truly appreciate your effort. Half of my unit's personnel are spread over several large bases. The other half are on small outposts along the Iraqi border. Let Freedom Ring.....

We live in the greatest country in the world. It's easy at times to forget how very blessed we Americans are. Even tho the economy is in the tank right now, and people are hurting all over, we still have our Freedom. That is so important.

I can't imagine living in a country where you can't worship your God your way, speak your mind on those things that concern you, live where you want to live, how you want to live, the lifestyle that you want to live, and be who and what you want to be. And although we as Americans don't always agree on religion, and politics, and lifestyles, and all the issues of the day....the important thing is....WE have the choice. Just as God created us....with choice. Ok, I'll jump off my soapbox now and talk about papercrafting!! Here's some 4th of July cards I made to send to family. I was going to make some cards using the punches like yesterdays post, only stars, but got sidetracked and came up with this design instead. It's out of the Wishes card making book from Close to My Heart. I just gathered up some patriotic papers and started following the directions....easy peasy!

It's Kansas.....and it's hot! But I'm sitting here under the air conditioner sipping some mint iced tea (yum)...fixing to go mow the lawn. Trying to gather up my courage. For those of you who know where I live, we mow 5 acres......EVERY week it seems like. We barely get finished mowing and it's time to start over again. But you would have to drag me kicking and screaming back to the city limits....give me country quiet any day...even if I practically live on the lawnmower all summer long! Have a great day!

My card stash is getting waaaaay low, had a few minutes, so thought I'd whip up a couple to go in my "stash". These cards took about 15 minutes to make.

First I picked my card base. Kraft colored cardstock. This is a standard 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 inch card. Picked 2 different heart size and made a few punches.

Put some adhesive on the inside of the card all around the punched hearts....

Then, just added some scraps of paper I had. What a great way to use up those scraps of patterned paper you have lying around!!

Then put a bigger piece of coordinating patterned paper on the inside to cover up the messy part.... I finished up the outside by using my piercing tool and punched holes all around the outside edge. Then I took a white gel pen and connected the holes to look like stitching (just because I didn't want to get my sewing machine out!)

This would be a great technique to use for 4th of July cards also using star punches and patriotic patterned paper. I'm going to make some of those today! Hope you'll try this quick technique and make up a few quick cards!

Speaking of card stashes....is you're getting low? I've been thinking about having a card making day at my house. If some of you would be interested in coming over and making some cards, I'll set up a day and we can have some fun. You can bring you're paper, embellishments etc, and use my stamps to load up your own stash! Let me know if you're interested and I'll set up a day for stamping fun. I've kinda slacked off on my exercise routine lately. Blame it on "no time", or "too busy", or any number of other things, but truth is.....I've gotten lazy. And guess what happens when you get lazy with exercise? You start gaining a pound or two....or three....So, it's time to hit the road and start walking again. I had a membership to the gym, but I'm a penny pincher when it comes to stuff (except scrapbooking supplies!!) like that. I'm also a very early riser..like 3:00AM on days I work, and 5:00AM on days I don't. I want to get my exercising done early so I can get on with my day. Unfortunately, the program I was signed up for at the gym (because it was the cheapest and I AM a penny pincher!) I could only go there between the hours of 9-2 Mon-Fri. Well, that just don't work very well for me. Half of my day is over at 9AM! I'm already busy doing other stuff then and don't want to stop and go to the gym. So....I quit the gym! It's back to exercising at home, the old fashioned way. Walking, biking, and free weights for strength training. I'm back on the road again!!

I had a wonderfully busy weekend! T-Ball games and family time. But... I also got some scrapbooking and papercrafting done. This is the first page of Wyatt's 2009/2010 album.

And here's the complete layout of T-Ball game. I so love the CTMH Cherish, Imagine, and Reflection books. It makes scrapbooking so easy. Any layout you choose turns out well. Just pick your layout and choose your papers and follow the directions!

I LOVE how this layout turned out. The bird pictures just pop off the page with this paper. This is the "MoonDoggie" paper from the latest CTMH summer catalog. This is the paper we will be using for Scrapbook Club on the 18th! I can't wait to scrap my other bird pics with this paper!

And then....I made this nifty stationary holder and stationary for someone at work that ordered some "Americana" type card stationary. I really like the way it turned out! The is the outside closed..

And the inside opened..Love it!

Here's another one I've started. Just have the holder done, but no cards yet to go inside. This will make a great gift. I'm thinking Christmas presents. It only took me about 45 mins to make the holder. Now to finish the cards!

Take Me Out to The Ball Game

School's Out...summer's here! With summer comes America's favorite past time...Baseball!

Well, in this case it's T-Ball. I love watching my grandkids play ball. It's fun to watch them learn the rules and try to hook together and apply what they learn into the actual game. All 4 of my grand kids are playing ball this summer, so I should get lots of ball pictures to scrap. These are the first of the lot. Actually, these are the professional pics, the ones that I took are on their way to me so I can finish the matching page for this layout. But since it's been a while since I posted anything, I thought I 'd at least share the first page. I hope all of you have lots of fun things planned for summer. Unfortunately, no vacation for us this year. Hopefully at least a day trip or two in the future anyway.

How about a yummy treat?

Since I haven't made anything creative for the last few days I thought I'd share a creative creation (is that an oxymoron?) with you. A yummy recipe from a friend of mine and upline Tina Sutton. YUMMMMM....man I wish I wasn't dieting....

Recipe For Chocolate Chip Pie

1 Unbaked Pie Crust (I use Pillsbury)

2 Large Eggs

½ Cup flour

½ Cup Sugar

½ Cup Brown Sugar

1 ½ Sticks Butter

1 Cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

1 Cup Nuts

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.Beat eggs until foamy. Add flour, sugar and brown sugar. Beat in Butter. Stir in Chocolate Chips and spoon into pie shell.Bake for 55-60 minutes. Serve with ice cream, whip cream, chocolate sauce or ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Makes 8 servings.

Did you think that I had dropped off the face of the earth? I haven't I promise! Just been extremely busy and haven't had time to create anything new. I'll get something going soon! My little girl.....

Jenny wouldn't appreciate me calling her "my little girl", but we as moms know that no matter how old they are....they're still our little ones. Today is a very special day. She's made it through her first step to RN and this evening will be pinned as an LPN, which launches her into her new career. I'm extremely happy that I will be able to pin her with her LPN pin myself, since I also am an LPN. She won't be able to practice as a nurse until she actually takes her state boards this summer, but to make it through the very tough class is an accomplishment in itself. So a big congratulations to my little girl.....and good luck to her as she starts her next step this fall. Good job. I'm proud!

It took me a while on the internet to find out what he was. He's a painted bunting. According to what I read, they are on the decline. That's sad. But I must say, I'm quite happy to add him to my list of visitors!

Mother's Day....just a few days away!

I'm happy to say my Mother's Day Cards are complete and ready to mail! I used the "Bella" papers from the new summer Close To My Heart catalog to make my cards. I added some paper flowers and some "bling", a little glitter for the butterfly and a few sentiments with stamps. I was happy with how they turned out. I always like to fancy up the inside of my cards as well as the outside....and a touch to the envelope is always nice too.

I also was able to get almost all of my birthday cards done that I needed for this month. So you know what that means? Most of the rest of the month I can concentrate on scrapbooking! Gotta love that! It was a good weekend to paper craft since it was so rainy ALL WEEKEND! I've been watching the birds out the window. They don't let even the rain stop them from devouring the food I put out for them. They may honestly eat me out of house and home if they don't' slow down! I refilled all the feeders yesterday, and low and behold today I had to refill them again. My hubby says they eat better then he does!

On a happy note in my birding adventures, today I THINK that I saw an Indigo Bunting. My sister (Hi Sharon!) says that they have alot of these down where she lives in Eastern Texas, but I hadn't seen one here. But the last couple of days I've seen a brilliantly blue bird flit through the yard. He doesn't slow down enough for me to get a picture of him, but I looked at the Indigo Bunting on the internet and it does look like what I saw. Hopefully it'll come close enough for me to get a picture. Enough bird talk for today!

I enjoyed weekend time with all my grand kids. Spent time with Garrett, Carleigh and Phog yesterday, and Wyatt today. Perfect end to a good weekend. Relaxation, creativity, enjoying God's beautiful nature, and spending time with family.

It says you really care about that person and their feelings, and problems, and friendship. Snail mail may be slower, but I think it's a lot more personal...don't you? Look who showed up for breakfast today!

For those of you have been reading my blog, you know that I have been working on attracting some beautiful birds to my backyard, not only because I love to watch birds interacting, but I'm wanting to practice photographing wildlife and birds, flowers etc. I've had an oriole feeder up for about a week and a half now because last year I had one lonely oriole hang around for a couple of days. Today my patience paid off....I couldn't believe it when I just happened to glance out of my scrapbook room window and spied some very welcome guests showing up for a fruity breakfast!
But to my surprise, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 Baltimore Orioles were eating at the two feeders that I have up. I was SO EXCITED...grabbed my camera and started shooting. Of course I can't get too close without shooing them off, so once again I had to shoot out of my window, so the focus is not as great as I would like it to be. But at least I have proof that they are here!!
These birds love orange stuff. I mixed up some nectar that I had bought especially for Orioles, and also added a few real orange slices as a further enticement after reading on the net that they love orange slices.

I've also been trying to entice the cardinals up the the feeders, but haven't been able to get any too close even tho they supposedly love sunflower seeds the best. But I'll continue to try to get them close enough to photograph.

Workskhops for April & May

For my scrapbook club members, here's a sneak peek at April's layout. It's male themed!

I can't believe I actually have pictures on this one already! That's a first! Of course I added a few accessories (the pirate charms) that coordinated with my theme that you won't have for your layout, but this might give you an idea of some male themed pictures you have that you can bring with you the night of class!

Now, next month, (May) I will begin offering a kit that anyone can purchase to make the featured layouts of the month. You do not have to join the scrapbook club. I'll post the featured layouts of the month, and if you want to purchase the kit you can, but if you don't like the featured layouts, you don't have to get them! You are welcome to come to my class night and put your layout together with my club members, or you can order your kit and put it together at your home. If you choose to come to scrapbook club, the featured stamp set and inks will be available for your use. If you choose to do the layouts at your home, you will need to purchase the featured stamp set and inks if you don't have them, or feel free to subsitute something else that you have on hand. There will be 3 different levels that you can purchase, according to what you want to invest. Blue Bird of happiness!

I was finally able to upload some pictures to my photography teacher for the online photography class I'm taking. The assignment was to shoot totally in manual mode, with you having to set all of your own settings...exposure, aperture, and shutter speed. I took lots of shots, but these are the 2 that I sent to Maggie. I'm happy to say she liked them and said she could offer no critique as they were fabulous shots worthy of framing. I consider it sheer luck that they turned out so well, but Maggie truly does make the settings on my camera not so scary! Next weeks lesson is on focusing, so am hoping to learn how to get my pictures more crisp. In my defense however, the bluebird picture I shot through my scrapbook room window (the window could have used a washing first...) to me it seemed a little fuzzy on the focus. But all in all, I am very pleased in what I am learning and hoping that I'll have awesome pictures to scrapbook someday!!

I'll be posting pics of next weeks scrapbook club layout hopefully today when I get a picture of it taken.

Photography 101

I've had a manual camera for years. Even before I changed over to a digital camera, I owned a 35mm SLR camera. You know, you're supposed to set your own exposure, shutter speed, and aperture? Yeah, Greek to me also. I dabbled a little in trying to learn, even took a college class, but it just never clicked. I came out more frustrated then ever before and continued to take pictures "point and shoot" style, totally unsatisfied with the results most generally, even tho my camera was capable of taking fantastic pictures. So I finally broke down and enrolled in an online photography class even tho I've been disappointed before with a class. Maggie (my teacher) is sooooo much easier to understand and has a wonderful way of breaking things down into understandable steps. With each week we have different assignments after reading our lesson. Then we upload photos to her for critiquing. Although I haven't had time to upload anything yet, (it's not mandatory), I did have time today to finally take a few pics with tips that she has taught in class over the last 3 weeks. Now mind you, these are pics totally with me setting all the settings myself. No automatic anything except focus of the lens. Tho I'm not there yet, I can already tell a difference in the pics I've taken. I was even able to take a few printable pictures from a concert in a dark auditorium when I was setting way up in the seats of course using no flash, as we all know flash does NOTHING in a dark big room unless you're right on top of your subject! I've hung alot of bird feeders outside my window, so am hoping I can lure some really beautiful birds up to pose for me. Of course that in itself poses a whole new set of challenges! But I'm encouraged finally that I WILL master this camera of mine and make it do what I want it to do! I'll keep you posted! In the meantime, enjoy a few pics I snapped this morning of our apple trees in bloom! Have a great day!

It's for the birds! & April Challenge

I can not wait until the real spring gets here. See this little guy here?

It's an Eastern Bluebird. We have a pair of them that come every spring and build their nest on a fence in our back yard by my flower bed. Every year they raise at least 1 if not 2 sets of babies. Well, unfortunately, last year one of our cats (Skinner...that's another story in itself) knocked the birdhouse off of the fence and it broke apart. As of yet we haven't gotten another one built yet. We must hurry though, as I have seen one of the pair flying around looking for their house. I don't want them to go elsewhere, as they've been here for probably 4 years. They're family

And then there's this guy. He's a Baltimore Oriole. Last year for the first time we had one of these also. He hung around for a few days. He's beautiful. Now, I'm not sure how to attract these fine fellows, but I did find out they like oranges. Now I just need to figure out how to get them to see an orange and come eat it!

Well, I haven't either, but....I did order pictures to start it! Today was Clean the House Day, so nothing creative to share...but tommorrow is free and clear, so hoping to get something done to show and tell!

I'm saving my energy for Chuckie Cheese this weekend. It's Wyatt's 6th birthday and that was what he wanted to do. So...the 4 grandkids, both moms and grandma are off to Tulsa to celebrate the day! John wants nothing to do with Chuckie Cheese. We went a few years ago..he wasn't impressed! So he decided he would let us have the fun and stay home. I just like to watch the kids have fun, and it's a good place for them to run wild and be safe. (Despite the pizza is like eating cardboard!)

Monthly Layout & Card Sketch Contests....

How about a monthly contest? Starting in April I will be posting both a layout sketch and a card sketch as a basic inspiration. Instructions are as follows: Make a scrapbook layout or a card (or both!) following the inspiration sketch. It doesn't have to be exact, but you need to be able to tell that you used the sketch as your main inspiration piece. Take a picture or scan your finished product and email it (web size) to me at nanasmemoriesctmh@yahoo.com On the 25th of each month I will post all of the entries on my blog and then we will vote on the best sketch inspired card and layout. The winner will recieve a prize from me. Sounds like fun! The more participants, the more great ideas we will have, and the more fun it will be. So today, I'll go ahead and give you the sketches for April so you can get a jump start. Remember, your finished layouts and cards must be emailed to me by April 24th so voting can begin on the 25th! To vote you will leave your vote by using the comment section of the post with the entries. Winner will be announced on April 30th! Good luck and have fun creating! The finished product finally unveiled! It took longer then I thought to get my pictures back. But here it is . I really like out this layout turned out. It's a collection of pictures of my hubby and I throughout the last 33 years together. We've changed alot over the years, me more so then he (except for the cutting of his long hippy hair way back then!)

This is the year I finally started my own scrapbook for myself, and this is the February layout. Sorta for Valentines Day I guess! The paper I used is from Close to My Hearts "Perfect Day" collection. I was really happy with how well it matched most of the pictures I used. I LOVE the new pewter brads with the designs on them. They finished it out just perfect.

The paper flowers are primas that I had already. The colors were just made for this paper pak! I used my cricut to cut out the titles. The layout was made from a sketch in the Imagine pattern book. So easy to follow the directions!

This is the view of my scrap room coming in from the kitchen. I have tons of light streaming in during the daytime. I reaarange the tables for whatever I need, but usually just have them pushed up against the windows when nothing is going on. I love being able to see out into the back yard and watch the birds and the occasional deer. Ok, that's all for today!

My Finished Scrap/Stamp Room

Okay, here we go.... lots of pics. I'll take you on a little mini tour of my newly remodeled scrapbook room. Hope you like. Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom if you have any questions about storage or where I got something. I am really happy with how it turned out. I love having a place for everything and knowing exactly where everything is. Makes clean up a breeze and hopefully I'll be able to be more productive. I'll try and let you know if I can where I got the organizational products as I go. First up is my embellishment storage. I store embellishments by color, just as it's easier for me. These are just the drawers from Walmart. Just throw them in the correct drawer and go on!

This is my new paper storage. I LOVE this. I have so much more room then storing it in racks. I have two different sizes of the Cropper Hopper storage sysytem for my 12X12 papers. The wider ones are for my patterned paper that I store by theme. I keep my kit papers together in the plastic bags they come in, so I can put the scraps right back in the bag they go. It's easy to add to this system if you need to my just adding another container. If I have a lot of papers from one line like Basic Grey, I may have it's own storage, but most of my paper is Close To My Heart.

This is the smaller size storage containers. This is where I store my Close To My Heart cardstock. Each color has it's own container, so I can just throw the scraps right back into the container. Super easy clean up which I love. I always had a terrible time sorting my scraps out and putting them away. But now I just drop them into the appropriate slot and go on! I got my Cropper Hoppers from JoAnns.com. They usually have 1/2 price cpns so you can get them cheaper. You can check out Ebay also if your'e interested in getting some of these. I LOVE them!

This is my personal stamp/scrap area. I was always working on my tables, then when I have club nite or people coming over, I had to move all my stuff off to make room. Now I have my own area to work in and won't have to move my stuff around! Love that! This area looks right into the kitchen.

Another view of my work area! I usually stand when I scrap and stamp, so this counter height is perfect for standing. Notice the pillow in the chair...it's a little low for sitting. Need to get a new pillow..but I hardly sit anyway!

I use the stamp/marker storage from CTMH for my stamp pads and markers. It has an area on top you can store reinkers, or take the top off and there is a handle to carry your storage if going to a crop or something. I have containers holding scissors and pencils etc on top of mine instead of reinkers.

This is how I store my buttons. I love to have them out where I can see them. I got the little jars from Walmart for $1.97 each. Perfect size for storing my buttons. Don't they look pretty!

This is the other storage I have for stamp pads other then CTMH. Before CTMH came out with their own stamp pad storage I had gotten this one on-line, so now I use it for my other brand of stamp pads that I use occasionally.

Ribbon storage has always been a problem for me. I found these ribbon dispensers at Wal-Mart and they are perfect for your ribbons. They have dividers that you can remove so they can accomodate thicker ribbons. I have more ribbon to put in them yet, but haven't gotten around to that yet. Another thing I just like to look at cause it's so pretty!

Then & Now....

As you all know one of my resolutions for this year was to finally start a scrapbook for myself. I have books for each of my grandkiddies, but not one for me. So this year I wanted to remedy that. I want my grandkids and even my kids to look at my book and get a real knowledge of who I am and what really goes on in my head and my heart! A scrapbook is a place to not only put pictures of events and memories, but to record forever your innermost thoughts for those who come after you. It's kind of a journal with pictures. I'll be the first to admit that I don't always journal in my books the way I should. It's easy to just put "5th Birtday" and go on, instead of taking the time to put your thoughts and feelings down. I'm not saying you should go in depth with every single page you put into your books, but I think everyone who scrapbooks should take the time to "lay it all out there" so to speak every once in awhile. But, I digress...I'm just waiting on a couple more pictures to arrive ( hopefully today?) to finish my very first layout for my own scrapbook. My goal is to do a two page layout a month for my book, and although here it is March already and I have not one finished, I do have the pictures and idea in mind for each month so far. Just a matter of my schedule settling down enough to get it done. I wanted to share with you today the picture I found of my hubby and I very close to the time we met. This picture was taken in 1977. Just look at the cracks in the picture and you can tell we are OLD! We'd been together a little over a year at this time. It's so funny to look at this picture from so long ago, compared to how we look now. A lot of years... a lot of memories. I'm sad now that I've let all that time go by without putting down what happened between...but todays' a new day, and God willing, I'll have a lot more memories to save and share with those I love! Aren't these the cutest stamps? The stamp set is from My Favorite Thing. How sweet for baby showers, get well cards, or for a special friend. I used a variety of papers, and paper pieced the umbrella and lady's dress. I pop-dotted the umbrella to give the card some dimension. I just love how they turned out! By the way, you can click on the pictures for a closer look!

I have a few more little things to do in my scrapbook room, then will post some "after" shots. I can't wait to get busy creating again. I'm almost finished with my first layout for my own album using the pages we made in this month's scrapbook class. I got the last picture taken tonight (my aunt Carol (Hi Carol!) & Uncle Everrett dropped by and was kind enough to snap a pic of John and I together that I was needing) to finish it. so now, just to get them sized and put on my pages, then I'll show you the results!

Finally, after 2 1/2 weeks, I'm done cleaning out my scrap room. I have a few things yet to get through, but the room itself is arranged the way I want. I'll snap a few pics and post for you at the end of the week. It's so nice to have it all put together. I LOVE my new way to store my paper. It is taking up so much less room. I'll be back to posting creative work soon, so don't give up on me. I'm trying to put the finishing touches on last weeks scrapbook club layouts so I can post them for you to see after the pictures are put on. They always look more finished with the pics! Till then....have a wonderful day!

10. Your neighbor stopped in to visit and thought you were having an "indoor yard sale".
9. Your mother-in-law fell into a panic because she thought you were packing to leave town and taking her "baby" away!
8. You started to clean and discovered you actually own 27 bottles of pink paint.
7. Your "craft room" is slowly becoming known as the "craft house".
6. Your work area has been reduced to a 12" x 12" space!
5. You literally climb up stairs made of supplies when you enter the room.

I'm still knee deep in re-organizing my scrap/stamp room. Whoever knew that it would be this much work? I'm still sorting and purging and moving stuff from one corner to the other in an attempt to make some sense of the chaos! Still deciding which way is best to store this, and which way is best to store that! But I'm excited about how it might look in the end. My hubby however says everyday..."how much longer is this going to take?, I'm tired of walking through a path!!" I however am enjoying the smell of all that paper I'm sorting, and the ribbons and buttons....such glorious colors...only us papercrafters could get "high" on the smell of paper and the rainbow of colors! I bought myself a label maker from ebay to start labeling all my paper and drawers etc. Can't wait for that to get here! I find great satisfaction in everything being in it's place eventually! (for the moment anyway until I start creating!) But enough of that. How about a scrapbook layout to brighten your day? These pictures were taken while Wyatt and I and Jenny were at the Wichita zoo on a boat ride. I just love the intense expression on his face. The papers are from Close To My Heart. I haven't had alot of time to update my blog lately
as I'm knee deep in re-organizing my scrapbook/stamp room. It really is more work then I was planning on when I started. Now that I'm into it, I don't want to stop until I get it done. But I'm working around daily life and work. My hubby is tired of trying to wade through boxes of "junk" as he calls it...all my scraping treasures!

So, because I haven't been creating lately, I'll have to give you a glimpse of something I've done in the past. This is a 9X9 accordion album I finished last fall. I'll just post a couple of pictures. Don't want you to have creative withdrawl!!! Hopefully, I'll get back on track in a week or so once everything is arranged the way I want it and organized into a creatively blissful area ( ok, I can dream....my scrapbook room is usually a creatively cluttered mess! The pictures are of course of my girls and son-in-law and grand kids. The album and papers/embellishments are from Close To My Heart.

Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day, with lots of flowers and candy????

Well, back to work. Have just a few more minutes before I have to head off to bed for work tomorrow, so better get done what I can.

Purging my scrapbook room - stuff for sale!

I'm in the middle of purging my scrapbook room in order to re-organize and am needing to get rid of some stuff. Rather then putting the heavier stuff on ebay with horrible shipping costs, I'm offering it up on my blogsite first. This will be a first come first served basis. So if you are interested in the stuff I'm putting up, quickly let me know! I'm re-doing my paper storage system so have the following paper racks to sell. The first picture is of acrylic stackable 12X12 paper racks. I have 40 of these. I'd like to sell all of them to one buyer, but if you don't need that many, we can divide them up. I'd like to have $2.00 each or $50 for all of them. That's saving $30 if you take them all.

These are very sturdy and stack nicely. You can put them on a bookshelf, or counter top, or most anywhere else that you have a flat space.

As you see, I have them stacked quite high!

I also have 6 wire paper racks for 12X12 papers. These also are stackable. They can be set on the floor or countertop, table, or wherever. They display your papers very nicely. Again, I would like to sell them all to one person. $50 for the whole lot
